maximum prest says:

i have to fly soon. by myself and its the most stressful thing you can do. especially if you have to catch another flight. people always try to talk to you, luckily right now theres a seat between everyone. but still people try to talk to you. its so weird. also the food is so nasty. as a picky eater ive only been able to eat the snacks

obscvritas says:

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I was with my parents who don't speak much English; we'd paid the extra fee to be able to ensure our seats would be together because I wanted to be able to translate for my parents if needed. We get on the flight, get in our seats… Flight gets delayed because a woman is desperately trying to switch seats with people so she could sit with her elderly dad. Most people refused to switch because most people paid extra to be able to select their seats… And while I'm sympathetic, the girl should have forked out the extra $15 (it was a cheap flight to begin with, between Naples and Venice) to sit next to her dad, like the rest of us had. It ended up delaying our flight by nearly an hour.

cmdub97 says:

It sounds as though the mom is somewhat used to getting her way. She probably couldn't book two seats together for some reason, saw an empty seat near her daughter and decided to just take it. I would have told her that I get motion sickness and if she doesn't move, her clothes could become a casualty during the flight.
I actually have really bad motion sickness, but have never flown anything larger than a kite, so my excuse would be legitimate and the likelihood of me throwing up would be high. I think the threat of puke would make anyone leave.

BPO says:

1. He paid for THAT seat. His OWN personal money (not the company). So mom, no.

2. If you got problem with ur seat, TELL THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT. That is no one else’s problem to bare.

3. Not like your daughter is about to die, you will see her again in a few hours. Honestly, the kid needs a break from you too.

4. When you ASK, there is ALWAYS two type of response, YES and NO. Don’t act a fool when you hear an answer you don’t like.

5. If your ass is on separate seats, it’s either you didn’t plan your trip accordingly/late or didn’t want to pay extra to reserve your seats.

I’m sorry, but the guy even feeling guilty about it just shows he’s a really nice guy. That mom can work on herself.

Butter Sugar says:

I will never give the seat that I paid for bcos I paid that seat for a reason.. As someone who has social anxiety, I don't want to sit next to a stranger. I often booked the seat next to me whenever I travel

Elena Sullivan says:

If that women started talking back to me and I had the same issue as him I’d have been like, “Look I’m about to call the flight attendant over, but if you must know I BOUGHT this extra seat with MY own MONEY because I’m claustrophobic. The longer you continue to sit in the seat that I BOUGHT with MY MONEY the higher the chance that my vomit ends up on your clothing. kapiche?” People think they’re so entitled anymore smfh. I like to give them life checks once in a while. You’re not more important than me just because you’re an asshole. 🙃

(also I have no idea how to spell kapiche oops)

Aerydice says:

One time my Dad booked my entire family 1st class while I had economy on a 13 hr flight. Please be nice to the kid, not everyone has nice & sensible parents

Jemel Bates says:

No I don't think he should have given up the seat he paid for which is the primary thing we need to consider here secondly he has severe anxiety so if something were to happen and he puked all over her she would not be very happy about that would she. Thirdly she could have asked him if its OK he had to see next to her daughter that he possibly could have asked the flight attendant to make other arrangements so that he could had the seat he needed so he had the buffer between people and she could have gotten the emotional support she needed by being sitting next to her daughter Thirdly she could have asked him if its OK he had to see next to her daughter that he possibly could have asked the flight attendant to make other arrangements so that he could had the seat he needed so he had the buffer between people and she could have gotten the emotional support she needed by being next to her daughter.

Flutistmom says:

NTA. He paid for it.

Lost and gone sis says:

Techinally, It’s his. Ethically, i agree with the lady

Kayra says:

If you want to keep an empty seat for yourself make sure to put your belongings on the seat, you don't want someone to just sit and then have to ask them to leave

BooknerdJebbi says:

If it was so bad as to make him buy a whole other seat then let the guy breathe. She has no right to assume that she can just take it nor does she have any right to name call. Also I've flown as a kid a lot, a teenager can sit alone just fine.
